Thanks Lance! Tour Down Under 2011

What an awesome week in Adelaide…I can’t think of many international sporting events where you get such a close look at the teams and individual athletes involved. Whether its in the riders village, the pre-race sign in or post race during the warm down. And with every stage starting in Adelaide city its easy to get down and check things out. If you have the chance to go make sure you take your wheels with you!

A good example of the accessibility of the Tour Down Under was the warm down after stage 5, which took place on a main road back to the city. About half the teams rode back to Adelaide immediately after completing the stage, giving the public a chance to ride alongside some of the pros they just watched competing only minutes earlier…

With the incredible performances from the Australians in the race, it was easy to forget it was Lance Armstrong’s last international race. Although there was plenty of thank-you’s to Lance during city stage 6, including Iron Horse Clothing’s own tribute to Lance below!

What a legend of the sport he is and it was a real privilege for Iron Horse Clothing to be there for his last race outside the US.

In the end there were 3 Aussies in the top 4 of the GC; Cameron Meyer, Matt Goss and Michael Matthews. Great to see a young WA rider taking out the general classification!

It really is exciting times for Australian cycling, those 3 guys together with names like Jack Bobridge, Luke Durbridge, Travis Meyer, Michael Hepburn and Michael Freiberg shows what a healthy state the sport is in here in Australia.

We can’t wait to get back there next year, (hopefully get to the Giro or TDF in between!) to see another year of Australians dominating and Iron Horse gear amongst the crowd!
